eeSea is aiming to disrupt the global container shipping industry

eeSea is a start-up in the global transport and container shipping industry. Our vision is to become the central back-bone platform for the entire industry; the Google Maps of container shipping – a billion-dollar industry.

The founder has extensive experience from this massive industry and is aiming to disrupt it. This requires an eco-system approach, where we work with our industry partners through APIs, collection of big data volumes and deep analytics.

We’ve built v1 of our platform, consisting of a large-scale database and a modern web app user interface, utilizing scraping, analytics and data visualization to a large degree.

The team currently consists of the founder, our research & industry analysis team, and our marketing & business development team. We are now building our development team.

Our office is currently located at Symbion, in Østerbro, Copenhagen. We are closing our second funding round and are supported by senior industry figures.

LogTech (yep, it’s an acronym !) as a startup category is heating up; and Copenhagen – with our maritime heritage and entrepreneurial eco-system – is uniquely placed to take advantage of this development.

Job Description – you will help us build a stellar SaaS platform

The current v1 platform is a further development of an initial MVP model; it works, but needs a thorough revamp to be able to scale and do what we what it to. Moreover, the company is now at a stage, commercially and product-wise, where we start to align our development road map with our immediate requirements as well as the strategic vision.

For this purpose, we will be hiring a team of 3-5 developers, including a Lead Developer, which the CTO is expected to work with. The right candidate is expected to be able to grow into a full CTO role within a short time frame, having proven his or her technical and management chops.

The position works closely with the CEO, the co-founding technical partner and the technical team – but is expected to work independently, and take our development team and structure to the next level.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • get an overview of the current platform – the code base, the things that work and don’t work, the integrations etc
  • hire, coach, develop and manage the development team. Lead by example
  • define the technical architecture, system design and infrastructure. This includes deciding when and how to rebuild the current platform into a scalable architecture, which stack to use and which resources are required
  • outline our short, medium and long term development road map – and drive it forward
  • balance and prioritize customer requirements, developer resources and costs with a view to this development road map
  • plan and drive sprints, managing hands-on, writing your own code and having your hands deep inside your team’s code base

As a person you:

  • enjoy – and even look for - the challenge of building and growing a platform, instead of just keeping a static application running
  • have significant hands-on coding experience with one or several stacks, even if you may not consider yourself a bleeding edge engineer
  • have experience managing projects and the broader aspects of building a proper application infrastructure
  • have an eye for the business, particularly the commercial and business development aspects and how they intertwine with the technical side
  • are proactive, self-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-moving start-up environment
  • take ownership; when a task or an area of responsibility resides with you, we trust it will be driven to completion, on time and to high quality
  • think strategically, but with a bias towards getting stuff done without over-thinking it
  • are structured, focused, and able to keep to task lists and time lines
  • communicate fluently and effectively in English, internally and with external partners. In fact, speaking Danish is not a requirement in this job
  • do not need to have transport industry experience, but are willing to acquire professional understanding and lingo
  • experience from a similar industry (big, heavy and disrupted), like travel, would be a plus
  • are committed to the job and the growth opportunity in a startup
  • enjoy working as part of a team, with the smiles, grudges, chaos, frustrations, laughter, and good people that come along with the experience

What do you get out of it?

Do you dread the heavy corporate structure and boring work routines of large companies? We are a budding startup company, so expect none of that. We offer you an exciting and growing position within a small company, where routines do not exist and where we are flexible and passionate about what we do.

We believe in and commit to working closely with and coaching our new team members; so you will need to learn and teach, at the same time. Passion is non-negotiable; you provide the energy and drive, and love what you do.

The CTO position is offered a market-aligned salary, based on experience and fit, as well as participation in a warrants scheme, so you get a significant upside when we succeed. This position is linked to a venture capital round we’re aiming to close soon.

Working hours are flexible, required tools are provided, working from off-site is allowed, within reason. During the application process you may be asked to take a personality assessment and cognitive test.

We have big dreams to change the container shipping industry fundamentally, but also immediate and realistic targets to become profitable and grow our company.

Working at
eeSea

Global container shipping carries 95% of the world’s manufactured goods. To many, the Ever Given stuck across the Suez Canal was a first peek at the interconnectedness of global supply chains; subsequently Covid put the spotlight firmly on timely goods delivery (or lack of same…) and transport costs; and most recently the industry is started to grapple with its role as a major emitter of greenhouse gasses. Headquartered in Copenhagen, eeSea is a well-established maritime supply chain intelligence scale-up, offering unbiased visibility and predictive analysis. Our vision is to become the central scheduling platform for the entire trillion-dollar industry.
